We decided that the settings for our preliminary task were to be situated as follows;
-Aswell springs as there was a set of rocky stairs leading down to it which we felt would work better than a normal set of stairs as the general feel of them were scarier than that of any other stairs we found. Also because the general view of the springs was fairly daunting and had that sense of vulnerablity as they were in a secluded area which not many people discovered on a daily basis.
-A long stoney path that we discovered in Ashwell which had a panelled fence with a gate opening out onto it from a carpark which we felt would be ideal for the beginning of our sequence.
Time of day
As a group, we decided that the best time of day would be around 4.30-6pm because it would be fairly dark but not dark enough that it would make it hard to capture the footege that we needed for our task. Also, as the genre for our sequence was horror we decided that it would make more sense to film in the dark than in the light as it added to the feeling of horror that we wanted our desired audiece to feel.
Props
We did not want to use to many props because we felt that if we tried to hard to make it scary that it would take away the feeling of an everyday life situation that may occur if we tried to over do it. But the main prop we decided on was a small back cassette tape because it was needed for the final scene in the sequence.
Costumes
For both the characters we wanted to show a bold contrast between them. So Becky who played subject B was clothed in an all in one long sleeved floor length white gown with a single button at the top for fastening that we chose and borrowed from the school drama department for the following days of filming in which she wore a plain white tee underneath to make the whiteness of the gown stand out the strongest against the natural backdrop of the sequence. She was to be barefoot as we felt this added to the mystery of the sequence to leave people wondering who she was. We also covered her face in harsh white makeup to enhance the scary look about her and to make her a more frightening character at the point when her head is raised.
I played the part of subject A and was clothed in a short netted an laced black dress which skimmed above my knees, contrasting to that of Becky's floor length white gown. I was also barefoot as it made the shot we used a lot more defiant and to emphasise the weird goings on that was happening in the sequence. I wore minimal makeup but backcombed my hair to emphasise the fact that my character was crazy.
We decided that our filming would commence on Monday 24th October and that we were to meet at Dom's house at 4.00pm to give us some time to get into costumes and perform Becky's makeup whilst going over the final storyboard to make sure that each person knew what they would be doing once we got to our first filming location at 4.30pm.
