What was your role?
In our preliminary task, I played the role of one of the two characters that featured in it. So therefore for the most of the duration of the task, I was infront of the camera. When there was a scene in which I did not make an apperance, I helped film a few different camera shots and angles for example the point of view in which whe subject B (played by Becky) is looking out to her surroundings looking for subject A (played by myself) who is no longer there. We all played a large role in the planning of the film and when it came down to storyboarding our final idea, we all pitched in equally to make sure that everyone was involved.
What worked well?
The location for our film, I personally feel had a major impact on the finished product as when we began filming, there were not many people surrounding the area and even if there was, we would ask people politely if they did not mind us filming and they responded positively and said that they would not disturb us. The costumes that were worn by myself and Becky reflected the typical conventions of the horror genre as they contrasted against one another, one character in white and the other in black, which implies the characters of the 'hero' and 'villian' that are usually the main addition when filming a horror based film.
The sounds and transitions added when editing our film also worked really well as they blended in naturally and did not sound particularly fake which we felt was a major concern had they of done. One particular transition I felt worked really well which was the dissolve fade used when the back of my characters dress faded into the next shot, which I felt made the continuty seem a lot smoother and made for an easy watch. In general, I think that as a group we all worked really well together seeing as we each contributed a unique part of our personalities and knowledge to the group which helped the filming and editing of our product run a lot smoother.
What didn't work so well?
One of the major problems that we had was on the first day of filming when we all met to began and when looking through the viewfinder of the video camera, we realised that it was far too dark for us to be able to continue filming our piece, and even with extra added light it was too dark so we had to change the filming to a different date which cost us valueable time that could have been used to start editing.
What will you do differently for your main task?
When filming our main task, we will ensure that we begin filming as early as possible to save any time and prevent the same mistake that happened during the preliminary task from reacurring and costing us time once again.
